A Timeline Through Autobiographical Writing (Descriptive and Personal Narrative), Grades 7-8
February 21, 28; March 7, 14, 21, 28; April 4, 11
8 class sessions, 1.5 hours per class (12 hours of instruction)

Course Description:
Students will practice the writing process through autobiographical writing! Reading, discussing, and applying what is learned from mentor texts, students will draw from their own life expertise to write original narratives, poems, and memoirs. Students will examine how word choice, sentence structure, imagery, and the use of figurative language enhances the reader’s experience. This will be a fun session of using significant time periods in students’ lives to show how writing can enhance these moments.
Instructor Biography:
This is Mrs. Parra's sixteenth year as a middle school teacher. She currently teaches English and Public Speaking. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of California, Santa Cruz and her Masters degree in Education Administration is from California State University in Fullerton. Mrs. Parra is a 2010 UCI Writing Project Fellow.
