Course Description:
In today's world, cultural identity extends far beyond family heritage to encompass a wide range of interests, hobbies, and passions that shape who we are. This beginner level workshop, " I Am My Culture" teaches students how to express their personal and cultural identity through digital storytelling, Along the way, students will develop essential 21st-century literacy skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, time and resource management, technology, and documentary filmmaking.
Through the use of still and moving images, voice-over narration, music, and interviews, students will learn the fundamental concepts of storytelling and screen grammar and apply them to create a digital story that captures their unique cultural identity. Over six weeks, students will learn how to use still and moving images, voice-over narration, music & sound, and interviews to create a digital story that moves an audience.

Instructor Biography:
Frank Guttler is a highly accomplished educator, digital storytelling and media arts expert with over two decades of experience in bridging the gap between education and technology, literacy, and filmmaking. A former K-12 Program Director at the American Film Institute, Frank brings a visionary insight to his work, igniting subject-matter engagement at all levels and fostering creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication in both teachers and students. Frank has also led filmmaking workshops and seminars for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Apple Distinguished Educators, Discovery Educator Network, and Google Teacher Academy.
