A Journey Through Narrative Writing, Grades 5-6

A Journey Through Narrative Writing, Grades 5-6
Find your voice and style along the way!

8 class sessions, 1.5 hours per class (12 hours of instruction)
April 1st - May 20th

Tuesdays, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. PST

Course Description:
People tell stories all of the time: at the dinner table, on a social media post, and when sharing between friends. But sometimes it's harder to get those stories written on paper. The blank screen can be intimidating, or the dialogue doesn't sound quite right. This course can help you write stories by studying good models and imitating what those writers do. There will be a combination of structured lessons and workshop time so that you can practice and grow as a writer. Along the way you will discover your own voice and style.

On this journey you will explore:

  • The story arc
  • Planning, drafting and pacing
  • Exposition
  • Dialogue
  • Interior monologue
  • Description
  • Transitions
  • Word choice
  • And more!
