Discovering your Voice through Opinion Writing, Grades 5-6
15 class sessions, 2 hours per class (30 hours of instruction)
June 26 - July 20 (No class July 4)
Mondays - Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. PST
Course Description:
Everyone has an opinion – it’s what often shapes our identity and distinguishes ourselves from others. While our opinions may be the experiences of what we find fantastic or terrible, the crafting of words in our own writing styles is what allows us to discover our voice and share these feelings eloquently with others. In this course, students will develop their opinions using popular trade books, identify supportive reasoning, and organize their ideas into their own writing voice. Students will also collaborate with their peers by editing, revising, and sharing their writing with others.
