Informative Writing, Grades 3-4

8 class sessions over 4 weeks, 1.5 hours per class (12 hours of instruction)

Course Description:In this Informative Writing course, students will have the opportunity to write like a scientist! They will explore a scientific topic by examining the facts and removing the opinions. They will present their scientific findings as a traditional essay and create a dynamic slide presentation as well. The skills they practice will help them look carefully at the information in the world around them in an unbiased and meaningful way.
Instructor Biography:
Ms. Tatro has taught 3rd to 5th grades for over 20 years in Paramount and Long Beach Unified School Districts. She received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and K-8 Multiple subject credential from Cal State Long Beach and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, Irvine. She is a Writing Project alumni, received a Teacher of the Year Award in 2021, and was a Technology Spotlight Teacher in 2022. She is passionate about helping writers of all ages find their unique voices.
