Personal Narrative: Telling Your Story, Grades 5-6
8 class sessions, 1.5 hours per class (12 hours of instruction)

Course Description:
Everyone has a story to tell! Mastering the art of telling a story from your life will help you become a better writer now and in the future. Students will have the opportunity to take a snapshot memory and turn it into a personal narrative. Beginning with a strong prewriting stage, students will thoughtful planning into story drafts. Students will also learn the important differences between revising and editing before they create a final, published draft. Finally, we will be learning the art of sharing our stories in a positive, constructive way.
Instructor Biography:
Ms. Tatro has been teaching for over 20 years in Paramount and Long Beach schools. She received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and K-8 Multiple subject credential from Cal State Long Beach. She also received a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University, Irvine. She is a Writing Project alumni and has previously taught a Virtual Youth course on poetry. In 2021, she received a Teacher of the Year Award and was a Technology Spotlight Teacher in 2022. She is passionate about helping writers of all ages find their unique voices.
