UCI's Summer Institute on the Teaching of Literacy and the Development of Literacy Leadership
The centerpiece of the UC Irvine Writing Project is the Summer Institute on the Teaching of Composition and Literature (Education 332.7), an intensive four-week, 100-hour seminar for veteran teachers in the field. It is designed to help teachers (elementary through university) develop techniques for teaching listening, speaking, reading, writing, and critical thinking to their students, enhance their own abilities as writers, and impart what they have learned to other teachers in in-service workshops. We aim to renew our teachers’ sense of excitement about and commitment to the teaching of composition and literature and instill in them a firmer grasp of the processes of reading, thinking, and writing.
