From the Editor
Dear Writing Project Friends, Welcome to the August issue of WordPlay, the bimonthly newsletter of the UCI Writing Project. As you can see from Michael’s letter, it has been a busy and exciting summer for UCIWP. I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting the new class of Fellows at the Summer Institute in June, and I look forward to getting to know all of them further in the coming months. We will be spotlighting two or three of these talented individuals in each upcoming issue of WordPlay, beginning this month with Susan and Kimberly. You may send submissions to mrsharrington@gmail.com, and I look forward to hearing from you. From the Director Dear UCI Writing Project Community, What a wonderful summer! Between the Summer Institute, Summer Youth Program, and the Pathway Project, it has been a whirlwind of writing. Our program growth has been amazing! The theme of this year’s Summer Institute was Adventures in Teaching, and it was nonstop fun with our new fellows! We wrote on the beach, wrote at Bunny Henge, visited the Summer Youth Program, and embarked on a hero’s journey scavenger hunt. Our own Liz Harrington even shared and filmed her Harris Burdick lesson with us! Our 17 new fellows will be featured throughout the year in WordPlay and we hope to see most of them in Writing Project 2. Please introduce yourselves and welcome them when you have a chance. |

All my colleagues were brilliant and professional, but by the time we developed an esprit de corps, it was the conclusion of our UCI stint.
