UCI Writing Project - Summer Institute 2026
The Summer Institute is the centerpiece of the UCI Writing Project. It is an invigorating four-week seminar for teachers (pre-k through university). This year, the theme is “Unraveling the Mysteries of Writing Instruction.” Each fellow accepted to our program might interpret the theme differently. It might mean looking for patterns in student writing samples and using our deduction skills to figure out possible responses; it might mean combing through resources to increase one's teaching repertoire; or just using this summer as an opportunity to really focus on the details of writing instruction! Inquisitive minds encouraged! In the summer of 2026, we're going to challenge our fellows to inquire and scrutinize their teaching, and to consider how they can provide their (sometimes elusive/mysterious) students with writing access and opportunities. Our project always recruits teachers of all levels. We often get many middle and high school teachers, so we also want to encourage elementary and early childhood teachers to also apply this year as well.
